Since blogger was down on Thursday, I am going to blog for Thursday and Friday. Thursday was a fun and exciting day. We had the opportunity to create a book talk using a flip camera. I had a great time acting out the book without giving the whole story away. The flip camera was a fun and easy tool to use to record the book talk. Any grade level would be able to use a flip camera as long as they are instructed on how to use one. This was a great activity to incorporate technology into a literacy program.
Today which was Friday was a day were we discussed more programs that could be used to incorporate technology into the classroom. We did a fun mystery project today where we had to solve the clues to find out what Willie looked like. This would be a great project for students because it was fun and interactive with the use of the PowerPoint and KidPix. As an adult, I enjoyed this project, so I know children would have just as much fun, if not more.
In the next week, I looked forward to seeing everyone's digital story and I look forward to learning more about technology in the classroom.
Flips are child-friendly and I agree that any grade level would be able to integrate them into their curriculum successfully. Creating video booktalks is an activity that would keep students engaged, motivated, and applying content in an innovative way. I felt that Friday’s mystery activity was also a great example of integrative technology because it was a creative way of using Power Point and presented research skills in a manner that would appeal to students.
ReplyDeleteI agree - I probably liked the Willie activity a little too much (for a 22 year old at least). When some people started just helping each other out as the time was running out I was actually trying to tune them out because I wanted to get it all figured out on my own! I can see where this activity would be really fun for elementary students, and the end of the project's use of KidPix was simple, but I did think it was a great use of technology. To actually be picking the colors and different shapes and drawing tools would give the children a lot of practice with different things within the program.
ReplyDeleteI also really enjoyed the PowerPoint mystery! I LOVE activities where I have to solve something. It gives the activity a purpose. I think this is a great learning tool for students for this very reason. An activity behind this is the basis for Project Based Learning. You pose a question and let students discover it for themselves!
ReplyDeleteFor your blog entries you don't just have to summarize what we did in class --- what else are you thinking or experiencing about technology?
ReplyDeleteGlad that you are finding the class activities useful in terms of your own thoughts about using technology in a classroom with students. There are so many possibilities!
